Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what data FolioSort collects (spoiler: very little — and never your photos) and how the website and payments work. FolioSort is available for macOS and Windows; this policy covers both.

The App — Your files stay on your computer

All file processing — organizing, renaming, checksum verification — happens entirely on your own computer. Your photos, videos, and their contents are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features are used and to fix problems, FolioSort sends anonymous, aggregated usage events to Aptabase (aptabase.com), an open-source, privacy-friendly analytics service hosted on EU servers. These events contain:

• A random session identifier that is regenerated every time you launch the app (it is not stored and cannot be used to track you across sessions).
• Your operating system and version, language/locale, and the FolioSort version.
• Anonymous action counts and feature names — for example "files organized: 124" or which screen was opened.
• For FolioSort Pro: your license status and a masked license key (only the first and last four characters, e.g. ABCD••••••••WXYZ).

We never send your file names, folder paths, file contents, GPS coordinates, or any directly identifying information (no name, no email; we do not store your IP address). This analytics is currently always on; if you do not want any analytics, please contact us.

Reverse geocoding (GPS → place names)

If you choose to organize photos by location, FolioSort converts the GPS coordinates already stored in your files into city/country names:

• On macOS this uses Apple's built-in CLGeocoder service (handled by Apple).
• On Windows this sends only the GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude — never your files) to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) to look up the place name. Results are cached locally to minimize requests.

This only happens when you enable location-based organization.

License validation

When you activate FolioSort Pro, your license key is sent to our payment processor (Lemon Squeezy) to verify it. Validation re-runs periodically (about every 7 days); otherwise the key is cached locally on your device.

Update checks

FolioSort periodically checks foliosort.app to see whether a newer version is available, so it can let you know when an update exists.

The Website — Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and referral sources.

You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by using a browser with built-in tracking protection.

Payments

Payments for FolioSort Pro are processed by our payment processor, which acts as the Merchant of Record. When you make a purchase, the payment processor collects the information necessary to process your transaction (name, email, payment details).

We do not have access to your full payment details.
