The Rename screen rewrites filenames from the metadata inside each photo — the real capture date, the camera, a counter — so that a folder sorts correctly by name in any file browser. This page lists every control on the screen and what each preset actually produces.
Rename changes the filename and nothing else. The pixels and the EXIF block inside the file are never rewritten, so the capture date the new name was built from is still inside the photo afterwards — you can rename the same folder again, differently, whenever you like.
If you would rather not touch the originals at all, set Mode to Copy & Rename:
the renamed files are written to a destination folder and the source folder is left exactly as it was.
Source FolderFree
The folder to read. Drop it on the panel or click to browse. Nothing happens to it until you have scanned, looked at the preview and pressed the button — choosing a folder is not an action.
Include SubfoldersFree
Off by default, so a first run stays inside the folder you pointed at. Turn it on for a whole library tree. The file count next to it updates after a scan, which is the number to sanity-check before you commit to anything.
ScanFree
Reads the metadata of every file in scope and fills the preview. Scanning writes nothing; it is safe to run as often as you want, including just to find out what is in a folder.
Rename / Copy & RenameFree
Rename renames in place. Copy & Rename writes renamed copies into a
Destination Folder and leaves the source untouched — the safer choice when the source is a
card, a backup, or anything you have not got a second copy of.

Only used in Copy & Rename mode, where it must be set before the button will run.
Date_OriginalFree
Capture date and time down to the millisecond: 20260312_143522123.jpg. The shortest name
that still sorts perfectly by time, and the one to use when the original filenames carry no meaning.
Date_OriginalNameFree
The same timestamp with the original filename kept on the end:
20260312_143522123_IMG_4567.jpg. The default, because it sorts by time without throwing away
the camera's own numbering — which is what you need if you ever have to match a file back to a raw or a
client reference.
Date OnlyFree
Seconds, no milliseconds: 20260312_143522.jpg. Shorter and more readable, at the cost of
needing the collision counter more often on burst sequences.
Date_Camera_OriginalPro

you want to see at a glance which file came off which camera.

where every file has to be numbered.

often than by software.
TemplatePro
When none of the presets is the name you want, build it from tokens — date parts, camera, lens, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and the city and country tokens when the photo has GPS. The example line under the field renders your template against a real file from the scan, so you are never guessing.
The extension is kept when the template does not name one. A template that cannot be evaluated will not silently fall back to a preset: the screen says Fix the template first and refuses to run, rather than renaming thousands of files into a shape you did not ask for.
RegexPro
Match-and-replace on the existing filename, for the jobs that are about the name you already have rather than the metadata — stripping a prefix a previous tool added, or normalising names that arrived from two sources in two shapes. If the expression matches nothing, the screen tells you so instead of running.
Fallback dateFree
What to use when a file has no capture date inside it — scans, screenshots, files stripped by a messaging app. You choose the rule; the app does not quietly invent a date and rename from it.
File-type filterPro
Files excluded by the filter are listed as Excluded by the file-type filter — this file is left alone. They are shown rather than hidden, so an empty-looking result is never a mystery.
ORIGINAL / NEW NAMEFree
Every file in scope, with the name it has now beside the name it would get. This is the whole point of the screen: the rename is a list you read before it is an action you take. If the preview is empty the screen says which step is missing — Scan files first to generate preview.
ResetFree
Clears the completed run so the screen is ready for the next folder. It does not undo anything.
UndoFree
Puts the last batch of names back. On Free this lasts as long as the app is open; Pro keeps undo across sessions, so a rename you regret the next morning is still reversible. Every rename is also written to Activity with its before and after names.
Free tier limitFree
Free renames 100 files per batch. Scanning, previewing and building templates are not capped — you can see exactly what the full job would produce before deciding whether it is worth a licence.
